• Cosigned Letter to DOJ on Non-Citizen Voting: Congressman Crane joined Rep. Biggs (R-AZ) in letter to Attorney General Garland regarding the lack of prosecutions taking place against non-citizens that have registered to vote and/or voted in federal elections. As you may know, prosecutions took place under the Trump Administration against non-citizens who committed voter fraud during the 2020 election. This letter addresses the growing concern from states across the nation that are seeing a concerning number of non-citizens being registered to vote. By signing on, the Congressman pledges to stand up for election integrity and hold Biden’s DOJ accountable, especially as they are refusing to bring cases against violators.
  
  
• Cosigned Amicus Brief to Supreme Court on Abortion Case: Congressman Crane joined Rep. Norman (R-SC) in Kerr v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic. The brief supports the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ determination that Planned Parenthood does not qualify to receive Medicaid funding. Medicaid reimbursements are by far Planned Parenthood’s largest federal funding source, providing $1.5 billion in reimbursements nationwide over three years.  In 2018, South Carolina declared abortion clinics ineligible to receive Medicaid funding based on their abortion activities and the narrow range of services they offer. Planned Parenthood sued. There have been two past appeals, each of which Members have supported with similar briefs. By signing on, the Congressman expresses support for South Carolina’s right to deny Medicaid coverage to Planned Parenthood since they do not provide sufficient Medicaid-covered services.

• Cosigned Letter to SECDEF on Havana Syndrome / Anomalous Health Incidents: Congressman Crane joined Rep. Pfluger (R-TX) in writing a letter to the Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin regarding Havana Syndrome. As you may know, dating back to 2014, a number of U.S. diplomatic, military, and intelligence officials and their families have reported major medical symptoms that have affected their auditory and sensory motor skills. These issues became public in late 2016 after a group of U.S. government employees and their families that were assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba began experiencing perceived loud sounds, head pressure and vibrations, pain in the ears and head, hearing loss or ringing, dizziness, nausea, and visual and cognitive impairment. These phenomena have come to be known as AHIs, or more commonly referred to as Havana Syndrome. After these cases in Havana became public, other U.S. officials and their families began reporting similar issues across the globe, including within the United States. Last month, the Congressman’s Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Intelligence, and Law Enforcement led the first open hearing on AHI. Victim advocates highlighted the delays in DoD action on providing care for victims and their affected family members. Last fiscal year, DoD was funded to provide care but has yet to execute the appropriated funds. By signing on, the Congressman is requesting answers on the status of care on this critical issue that is affecting Americans who have served our country and protected our national security interests.

The letter emphasizes that the VA must comply with laws passed by Congress and signed by the President and demands assurance from Secretary McDonough that the VA will adhere to the Act if it becomes law. The letter stresses the importance of the separation of powers and the VA's constitutional obligation to enforce the laws enacted by Congress.

• H.J. Res.165 – Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Education relating to “Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance”: The Congressman voted in SUPPORT of this legislation, which disapproves of the Department of Education’s final Title IX rule that undermines decades of advancement and protection for women and girls in accordance with the Congressional Review Act. As you may know, Title IX prevents discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal funding and was intended to provide women and girls with equal educational opportunities. The Biden Administration’s rule expands the definition of “sex” to include “gender identity,” meaning biological males could enter women and girl’s private spaces, including bathrooms and locker rooms. By voting in favor, the Congressman protects women and girls.
  
  
• H.R. 8281 – Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act: The Congressman voted in SUPPORT of this legislation, which requires states to establish a program to remove non-citizens from their existing voter rolls and gives states immediate, no-cost access to federal databases with citizenship information to do so. As you may know, since President Biden assumed office and opened our southern border, more than 10 million illegal aliens have entered the country. The Administration is dispersing these individuals across the country, reportedly with the largest numbers being transported to “red” states. Every state (except South Carolina) issues driver’s licenses to noncitizens, and nineteen states issue driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. Just a visit to the DMV can easily result in an individual being registered to vote—regardless of citizenship. In the Constitution, Article IV, Section 4 requires the United States to “guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government”. Protecting the vote of each American from nullification by illegal voters is essential to that guarantee.. By voting in favor, the Congressman stands for election integrity and reserves one of the most fundamental rights afforded to American citizens – the right to vote – by requiring proof of citizenship in order to cast a ballot in a federal election.
  
  
• H.R. 7637 – Refrigerator Freedom Act: The Congressman voted in SUPPORT of this legislation, which prohibits the Secretary of Energy from prescribing or enforcing energy efficiency standards for refrigerators and freezers that are not technologically feasible and economically justified, likely to result in additional net costs to consumers, or are not likely to result in a significant conservation of energy. As you may know, in pursuit of their radical, Green New Deal Agenda, the Biden Administration continues to issue energy efficiency rules for appliances that drive up costs and reduce reliability. • Veto Message to Accompany H.J. Res. 109 – Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Securities and Exchange Commission relating to Staff Accounting Bulletin No. 121: The Congressman voted in SUPPORT of this legislation, which disapproves of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) illegal rulemaking on Staff Accounting Bulletin 121 (SAB 121) in accordance with the Congressional Review Act. As you may know, SAB 121, effective on April 11, 2022, requires public companies, including banks, that safeguard digital assets for their customers to record the value of those consumer-owned assets on their balance sheets. This treatment deviates from traditional custodial practices and will increase banks’ capital and liquidity costs, which will ultimately be passed on to the American consumer. SAB 121 was billed as “SEC staff guidance” – circumventing the public notice-and-comment process – but was later determined by the Government Accountability Office to be a “rule” for purposes of the Congressional Review Act. By voting in favor, the Congressman inhibits President Biden’s desire to use the agency to promote fiscal responsibility.

OPPOSED:

• H.R. 8772 – Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, 2025: The Congressman voted to OPPOSE this legislation, which included a pay raise for Members of Congress (raising the base pay to $180,600). As you may know, many Americans justifiably are outraged by the clandestine methods Congress has used to secure pay hikes. Previously, Congress has promised they would not make an issue of the hikes ahead of congressional election campaigns. By voting in favor, the Congressman rejects the Uniparty’s efforts to choke off any political opposition to the pay raise and keeps Congress honest with the American people.

While families around Arizona freely celebrated our nation’s founding this past weekend with rodeos, barbecues, parades and parties, we gratefully remember the brave men and women who sacrificed so much to preserve our freedom.

Since coming to Congress, supporting our veterans and advocating for these brave men and women has been one of my top priorities.

Arizona is home to more than 450,000 veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces with nearly 60,000 of them residing right here in Arizona’s Second Congressional District. As a member of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, it’s a primary mission of mine to ensure that these voices are amplified, represented, and fully heard.

Despite the courageous sacrifices of our nation’s veterans, as I’m sure you’re well aware, our institutions continue to fall short of sufficiently addressing the needs and well-being of America’s heroes.

As a former Navy SEAL, I understand the challenges veterans face as they return to civilian life and the unacceptable failures in proper benefits and care. Instead of enacting unconstitutional vaccine mandates, engaging in forever wars and implementing absurd woke training for our troops, I believe we must prioritize world class care, resolve the homelessness crisis, and amply reward veterans for their selfless service to our great nation.

During my first term in office, I’ve introduced and supported different pieces of legislation that would further this objective.

The first piece of legislation I introduced as a member of Congress would enable Gila County, Arizona to operate a veterans’ center on 232 acres in Young, Arizona. Any time Congress can vote on legislation that returns power to the states is a good thing.

Veterans in Northern Arizona need a space to heal and reconnect with their families after putting their lives on the line for the peace and freedom of all Americans.

This incredible facility is the first of its kind in Northern Arizona, providing resources and support primarily to rural veterans and their families.

The Center will provide family housing, meeting and activity spaces, resource rooms, veteran ceremonial grounds, and outdoor recreation.

Back in May, I had the opportunity to visit and tour the site with Gila County Supervisor Woody Cline.

One of the things I love so much about this project is that it sets aside space for veterans to recharge and heal.

The leaders of this project are taking a beautiful piece of land that’s not being used any more and revitalizing it into something amazing for some of our nation’s finest individuals.

The House passed my bill unanimously and is awaiting further action by the Senate.

In addition to providing spaces for our heroes to heal and readjust, addressing employment after service is also necessary in helping our veterans successfully transition back home.

Earlier this year, I introduced the Hire Veterans Act, a bipartisan bill that would employ American veterans while strengthening the federal skilled labor force, specifically at the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management.

Over the past decade, federal land management agencies have routinely faced staffing shortages, impacting their operational effectiveness. Notably, the U.S. Forest Service has struggled to attract and retain staff, compounded by a noticeable gap in the experience and skill sets of candidates, affecting their capacity to address increasing wildfire threats.

The Hire Veterans Act comprehensively strengthens the federal skilled labor pipeline for veterans, streamlining the hiring process for veterans seeking to protect our natural resources.

Specifically, the bill establishes a five-year pilot program to direct federal land management agencies to conditionally appoint a veteran who has demonstrated the necessary skills and abilities for specific vacant positions at federal land management agencies.

As a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, I’m all too familiar with the obstacles servicemen and women face when transitioning to civilian life. I’m also well aware of the challenges our federal land management agencies currently face, particularly in filling vacancies for firefighters, park rangers, and foresters.

With this bill, Congress has the opportunity to both streamline the employment process for veterans and better ensure that our natural resources are protected for future generations.

The bill has advanced to the House Committee on Oversight for further action. Even after our veterans risk their lives and comfort for this nation, forces up in Washington, DC are hell-bent on trampling on the Constitutional rights of these courageous men and women.

Last month, I offered an amendment during the appropriations process to protect veterans’ Second Amendment rights. I’m proud to say that the amendment was adopted with a bipartisan majority.

The amendment clarifies that any veteran who was reported to the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System by a VA fiduciary was done so incorrectly in violation of their Constitutional rights.

It also forces the VA Secretary to instruct the Attorney General to remove these veterans from the NICS list.

The appropriations bill successfully passed with my amendment.

I’m encouraged to see Congress refusing to turn a blind eye to the 260,000 veterans who have been wrongfully submitted to the FBI’s corrupt system. President Biden and his administration have shown they would have no problem moving forward to disrespect the Constitution and strip veterans of their Second Amendment rights.

If this administration is willing to do this to veterans of our Armed Forces, they will do this to the rest of America.

With all the corruption up in the Swamp and the blatant disregard our leaders have for veterans, their essential needs and sacred rights, it’s more important than ever to relentlessly go to the mat on their behalf.

I’m grateful to the people of Arizona’s Second Congressional District for allowing me to represent them in Congress and I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish for our veterans during my first term.

The Republican Ukraine Skeptics Who Saw War Firsthand

• Crane, now the Republican representative from Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, dates the origins of his own foreign policy thinking to the weeks after 9/11, when he dropped out of college in Arizona to enlist in the U.S. Navy.
  
  
• Like many of his fellow post-9/11 enlistees, Crane told me, he was motivated by a mix of anger and patriotic duty, and he believed the George W. Bush administration’s rationale for the war in Iraq that began in 2003: that Saddam Hussein was a dangerous and despotic tyrant aiding al-Qaeda, and that the U.S. would bring freedom and democracy to the Middle East.
  
  
• After 2½ years serving aboard an Aegis missile cruiser, Crane joined the Navy SEALs and deployed to Iraq, eventually serving three deployments with SEAL Team 3.
  
  
• But as the war dragged on, Crane said, he grew gradually disillusioned with the U.S. mission. He was vaguely aware of news reports that the Bush administration had fabricated its pretext for the war and was badly mismanaging the war effort, but it “wasn’t all-consuming,” Crane told me.
  
  
• The real “light bulb moment” came during his third deployment in 2010, when his unit was tasked with locating and capturing a high-value Iraqi combatant. Crane and his fellow SEALs chased their target all over the country before capturing him and imprisoning him in an Iraq jail.
  
  
• A few days later, though, Crane said he learned the captive had been let go after the target’s associates walked into the jail where he was being held, bribed the Iraqi guards and secured his release.
  
  
• “At that point, I realized that we were not going to be able to achieve our goals,” Crane said. “We were also probably risking our lives pointlessly.”
  
  
• The episode crystallized a more fundamental concern about the U.S. war effort that had been nagging at Crane throughout his earlier deployments. “I thought the goal was to make Iraq more like the West, and [after that], many of us were beginning to realize that, on the ground, that was not achievable,” he said.
  
  
• It was a heavy blow for Crane, heavy enough that it prompted him to begin plotting his exit from the military and preparing for civilian life.
  
  
• In 2014, after a final enlistment, he returned to Arizona and started a small business with his wife — later featured on the popular ABC show Shark Tank — selling bottle openers made from the shells of .50 caliber machine gun casings.
  
  
• The experience of the war stayed with him, though, as did the feelings of disillusionment and disappointment over the “gaslighting and manipulation of the American people” that had made the war possible. Over time, he came to see those deceptions as symptoms of a deeper political illness.
  
  
• “As I got out [of the military] and I started to watch the things that were going on in our country and in our culture, I started to realize that maybe the United States had its own issues with corruption,” Crane told me.
  
  
• “As I watched while we continued to spend money overseas while neglecting bigger priorities here in the U.S., it started to dawn on me that maybe we need a shift in our foreign policy and a makeover of the Republican Party.”
  
  
• Crane saw the first indication of that transformation in February 2016, when Trump took the debate stage in South Carolina and said publicly what Crane had come to believe privately: The war in Iraq had been a mistake.
  
  
• “It definitely made me think that maybe candidate Trump was right,” Crane said. “I think that was what happened for a lot of us. We started to ask ourselves, ‘Is there something to what he’s saying? Is he right?’”
  
  
• Five years later, in July 2021, Crane announced his campaign in Arizona, challenging incumbent Democrat Tim O’Halleran.
  
  
• Throughout the summer of 2021, he hammered the Biden administration for the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, even as he agreed that withdrawal was the right course in the long run. But in February 2022, when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Crane thought back to 2001.
  
  
• “[I understood] our appetite for never-ending war and what this could lead to,” Crane said. “To have the same leadership that just completely bungled the withdrawal from Afghanistan and to know that they might now be pushing us into a war with the largest nuclear power on the planet — there was definitely concern there.”
  
  
• In Congress, Crane has emerged as one of the leading Ukraine skeptics in the House, having voted against every effort since 2023 to send additional U.S. aid to the embattled nation.
  
  
• To explain these votes, he has re-appropriated the argument — first coined by Republican Dwight Eisenhower and later claimed by progressive Democrats — that the “military-industrial complex” exercises undue influence over U.S. foreign policy decisions.
  
  
• “The military-industrial complex is alive and well, and I do believe it’s very influential up here in Washington, D.C.,” he told me. “Business is good for a lot of massive corporations when the United States of America is at war.”
  
  
• More than a decade out from his final deployment, he’d like to see the Republican Party learn the lesson he learned in 2010.
  
  
• “There is this ever-intensifying desire for intervention around the globe,” he said, “even when I don’t think that we’ve been very successful with it, when I know we can’t afford it, and when we probably create more chaos than we solve.”

Navajo, Hopi leaders hope Congress acts quickly on water settlement

• Lawmakers from both parties have introduced legislation in Congress after three Arizona tribal nations came together to successfully negotiate a sweeping Indian water settlement.
  
  
• Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.) introduced the historic bill, the Northeastern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Act companion legislation, with co-sponsors Sen. • Earlier in June, the House voted to hold Garland in contempt for declining to turn over the subpoenaed tapes, but Garland's department declined to prosecute him.
  
  
• This is not the committee's first attempt to get its hands on the tape. After it pressured Garland previously, Biden exerted his executive privilege over the committee to prevent their disclosure.
  
  
• Republicans have rejected the executive privilege argument because the lower chamber already has the transcript.
  
  
• “Any privilege that could conceivably apply to President Biden’s interview with the special counsel was waived when the Executive Branch released a transcript of that interview to the press and produced that transcript to the Committee,” according to the House lawsuit against Garland.
  
  
• In Hur's report on his investigation he also stated Biden “appeared to have significant limitation” in recordings with ghostwriter of his memoir, Mark Zwonitzer, in 2017 and during his 2023 interview with the special counsel’s team.
  
  
• “Mr. Biden's recorded conversations with Zwonitzer from 2017 are often painfully slow, with Mr. Biden struggling to remember events and straining at times to read and relay his own notebook entries,” Hur’s report said of the recorded memoir planning sessions.
  
  
• Yet, by 2023, when President Biden sat for a five-hour interview with Hur’s team, his memory was “worse,” failing to recall the years of his vice presidency and forgetting the year – 2015 – that his son, Beau Biden, died after a battle with brain cancer, according to the report.
  
  
• “He did not remember when he was vice president, forgetting on the first day of the interview when his term ended ('if it was 2013 - when did I stop being Vice President?'), and forgetting on the second day of the interview when his term began ('in 2009, am I still Vice President?'),” Hur wrote, summarizing the interview.
  
  
• The Department of Justice admitted in May in a federal court document that the transcript had been altered, omitting some repeated words and filler words such as "um."
  
  
• The department submitted the document as part of a lawsuit filed against it by the conservative legal watchdog Judicial Watch, the Heritage Foundation and a media coalition led by CNN.
  
  
• "The transcript is not accurate and was changed in a way to help Biden," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said. "There is nothing ordinary about this, and the transcript inaccuracy issues seem to help Biden’s political campaign needs."
  
  
• Meanwhile, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) late last month introduced a resolution that would fine Garland $10,000 a day until he complies with the subpoena and releases the audio tapes, the Ohio Capital Journal reported.
  
  
• Crane told the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show in an interview aired Thursday: “I will vote for inherent contempt. I'll continue to vote for us to cut spending. But based on even the little time that I've been in Congress, a little over a year and a half now, I'm not going to hold my breath and think that this Republican conference, you know, found religion overnight and is willing to actually do the things that we campaigned on.”
